Yoga Philosophy Group – monthly small discussion group

Join our monthly yoga philosophy group where we will explore the philosophy behind the ancient practice of yoga.  A  series of topics will be chosen, we will share our ideas around these concepts and I will help your to explore the topic from a yoga view point.   The individual  topics will link to each other across three sessions so you will need to commit to attending all three sessions.

These sessions are designed for you to deepen your yoga practice and your understanding of yoga’s application in your life.  They will be an opportunity to openly discuss concepts from our own and a yoga perspective.  We will not be focusing on specific religious aspects of particular yoga traditions.  The sessions will based around the commentary of Patanjali’s Yoga Sutra. 

Series One :-       What is Mind?      What is Heart?      What is Soul?

Series Two :-        Energy of the Body.       Energy of the Breath.      Energy of the Mind.

Future Sessions

The philosophy group will take place on a Saturday morning and Tuesday evening once a month.  If you are interested in attending please contact me or let me know.

Details for all group meetings

  • Minimum 6 participants, maximum 12 students.
  • £30 per person for each series of 3 sessions.
  • Session duration is 2 hours there will be a tea break in the middle, refreshments will be provided.
  • These sessions are designed for people practicing yoga in order to deepen their understand of the teachings.  We won’t be practicing yoga postures in the session.
  • Places on sessions are only secured once your payment for the series is received.
  • We will be sat on chairs or the floor for the discussion, please let me know if you might have any specific requirements, (There are stairs to climb to the room we’re meeting in).

Refunds

If Yoga Practice cancels a course or moves a group to a different day, time or venue and this is unacceptable, the enrolment deposit will be refunded in full. If you are unable to attend a course you have paid for in full, the course fee minus the enrolment deposit will be refunded only if your place can be filled by someone else.  Other than these circumstances, Yoga Practice will not normally provide refunds for course fees.

In a series of three Saturday morning sessions, we examined the meanings of  Mind, Heart and Soul outlined in the Yoga Sutra of Patanjali. I think the majority of this content was pretty new to most of the approximately 10 participants in the sessions. From my own perspective I came to the sessions with experience of performing postures and breathing, but with little underlying philosophical knowledge. The sessions themselves were very accessible with many contributions from the all participants. I found the sessions  enlightening, and they enabled me to start to understand the basic philosophical principles behind the tradition. Looking forward, I hope they form the early steps on a path to further enlightenment.

An Excellent introduction to yoga philosophy with just the right balance of teacher input and discussion. The questions and ideas raised from each session continue to be thought provoking long after each session has finished.

I just wanted to reach out and say thank you to Beth for running the Yoga Philosophy group. I am a complete novice of the Yoga Sutras and didn’t know what to expect, but I shouldn’t have worried Beth put us all at our ease and the group is really friendly. She is passionate about yoga and how it can bring awareness into our daily lives. We spoke of the connections and nature of our mind, heart and soul and how through practicing postures and breathing with awareness we can have a settling of our minds, heart and soul. I’m still a complete novice but now have a better understanding of why both posture and breathing work is intrinsically linked in Yoga practice. I’d highly recommend coming along and joining Beth’s group. What could be better than sharing thoughts, ideas and laughter over coffee on a Saturday morning.

Beth’s passion and love for Yoga shines through all her teaching.

I really enjoyed the opportunity to be engaged in this group enquiry into the philosophy of yoga.  Looking into the yoga sutras and deepening my understanding of the whole system of yoga, within which the more familiar postures sit, and all that it has to offer. Only sorry I couldn’t make the final session but hope I can make it next time.

I thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to learn more about the philosophy behind Yoga, it has really expanded my view of what Yoga is all about. I found the courses to be perfectly balanced in that there was a good amount of learning but also plenty of interaction from the group, making it a very enjoyable morning for each session.

I would recommend the courses to anyone who has an interest in Yoga as it will give a greater depth to your practice.
